本屆威尼斯影展競賽片單公布。鍾孟宏導演的《瀑布》闖進官方競賽的地平線單元，蔡明亮導演的《良夜不能留》則挺進競賽外短片單元。此外，本屆意外沒有任何中國長片入選，未知是否與坎城影展選映《時代革命》有間接關係。
